The American Hall of Fame Medals Collection (Franklin Mint, 1980)

NOTES

32mm. Complete set of 100 medals. The Living History Center was founded in Philadelphia during America's Bicentennial year. Its purpose was to dramatize the great events and people of our nation's history, and to help instill a greater appreciation of America's rich heritage. In keeping with this purpose, the Center established the American Hall of Fame, where 100 of the greatest men and women in America's history are commemorated. This exhibit was dedicated on Independence Day, July 4, 1977. As part of this tribute, the Center authorized the issuance of this official collection of 100 commemorative medals.

Each medal honors one of the great men and women enshrined in the Hall. The original designs were created exclusively for this collection. Each work of art combines a sculptured portrait of the American being honored with a scene symbolizing a major achievement of that person's career. Each subscriber received a custom-designed hardwood collector's chest to house and display the 100 medals.

The set was issued from 1977-1985. Each medal is 32 millimeters in diameter and is 24K gold electroplate on sterling silver.
