Bronze, gold-plate, and silver versions were produced. Price shown is for silver or gold-plated version only. Bronze sets have little if any value. The East African Wildlife Society commissioned this series of 20 medals that portray African big game animals in danger of extinction. Sculptor Anthony Jones made a 1600 mile trek through Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda so that he might study and accurately sketch the animals at first hand. Bronze proof-like specimens were still available at Franklin Mint Gift Shops in 1980.
The set was issued in 1971-1972. Each medal is 51 millimeters in diameter.
